In late 1963 the P1 was adopted for use by the German military, identifiable by the P1 stamping on the slide. The P1 has an aluminium frame rather than the steel frame of the original P38 design.

  This is very much a response by the German Military at the Hight of the Cold war to upgrade the German Army's sidearm to match the Soviet threat in 1963.

   Militaria of the Cold War is now getting very popular with collectors and investors as a growing market.
