Genuine Boar War Mauser 1896
It has typical Boar person or unit crudely engraved on rifle butt
Manufactured by Ludwig. Loewe & Co in Berlin
This deactivated Mauser Model 1896 rifle was skilfully manufactured by Ludwig. Loewe & Co in Berlin in 1896 and its serial number is A6974.
Those ordered by the Transvaal had an A, B, or C letter prefix preceding their serial number, the prefix on this 1896 has the prefix A. So this rifle was part of the first batch of 1896's rifles 10,000 that were ordered by the Transvaal from Loewe & Co, Germany
The floor-plate and trigger guard have matching numbers and still retain a some amount of bluing with some fading. The serial number is repeated on the stock, on the LHS adjacent to the action.

The Z.A.R. purchased 47,000 rifles and carbines from Ludwig Loewe and DWM. the serial number A6974 (matching) puts this rifle in the first completed delivery by serial numbers A1 – A10,000. These are distinctive by their lack of receiver markings and German Imperial Military-type inspection marks.
The side wall is marked “MOD. MAUSER 1896. / LUDW. LOWE & Ce BERLIN.” It has with a twenty-nine inch barrel. Overall the rifle is 48.5/8″ long.
The condition of this Boar War Mauser is in good order and it has a lovely wood stock. The bolt works and the trigger works and this rifle has just been deactivated to the latest EU24 specification.

It is very rare these days to find a Genuine Boar War Mauser and is ideal for the serious collector . The Boer governments also sold Mausers at slightly above cost to anyone who wished to purchase one after the contact rifles were delivered.
It has full German Imperial proof stamp and is all matching numbers.
