This is a very early WWI British Enfield No.1 MkIII  sniper rifle that is fitted with a side mounted Periscopic Prism Co. (PPC) sniper scope.

This model was one of the more prolific of the British sniper rifles with approximately 5000 manufactured in total that were used throughout WWI and into the early post-war era.

It has the standard Enfield markings with the butt socket that is marked with the "Crown/Enfield 1915 / SHTLE / MkIII fitted with a magazine cut off.

It has the standard blade front sight and the long tangent rear sight with the protective wings on the sides, along with the standard milled components, and a ten shot box magazine. The side of the receiver has been fitted with a short dovetail type steel base that is held on with several small screws.

As noted, it is fitted with a refurbished PPC scope that has a corresponding integral set of scope rings/mounting plate in the center of the scope tube.

The scope has a front mounted elevation ring with a sliding focus plate towards the middle of the scope tube.

The scope is marked aside for a serial number (    ) marked on top of the front ring and "PATENT 3027/1915" on the rear ring. It is fitted with the standard two piece walnut stock, with a short buttstock, forend and two top handguards
