Enfield Long Lee Enfield dated 1896 Mark 1 .303
Equipped with a side mounted Aldis Mark 3 Scope dated 1916
This Long Lee mk1 dated 1896 is fitted with a WW1 Aldis Mk3 Sniper scope
as used in the Trenches during the Great War and was fitted to the SMLE No1 Mk3 Sniper Rifle.
The condition of this Long Lee is very good with it's barrel looks to have excellent rifling.
This Long Lee is fitted with a side mounted 1916 dated Aldis Mk3 scope and the optics are in good order. The bullet drop compensator on the Aldis Mk3 scope has a range drum from 100 yards to 300 yards ideal for shooting game, maybe shooting game in South Africa or even shooting Red deer in the highlands of Scotland. It could have even been taken to the Great war, many British officer's used there own private hunting guns on the Western front and this is well documented.
This Enfield long Lee is a British Military Service rifle and may well have seen service in the South African Boar War against the Dutch Boars.
Nice clean condition wood furniture and the barrel has 'E' for Enfield Rifling . VR Proof Stamps for 1896.
The leather scope case is in good order for 104 years
For a rifle that is 125 years old the condition is very good
This Rifle has come out of a well know collector of Military firearms, we can find out nothing about this rifle's history, the last owner has past on without leaving any documentation.
